Rebels Take Control of Tripoli In Libya
The combats between the rebel groups against the forces loyal to the tyrant Muammar al Gadhafi have finally reached the heart of Libya. Thousands of people in Tripoli have celebrated the rebel arrival, now the hostilities have intensified in the vicinity of the Libyan leader residence. According to Reuters Gadhafi’s whereabouts is unknown.
While Gadhafi seems to have escaped, the rebels surround his family. The rebels captured Gadhafi’s son Saif el Islam, yesterday, Islam has an arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court. The rebels are currently negotiating with the international entity for an extradition. Meanwhile the oldest son of Gadhafi, Mohamed, offered a televised interview, however the transmission was cut after several explosions and shots. Gadhafi’s son was unharmed, but was also captured.
Despite the unknown whereabouts of the Libyan dictator several forces continue to defend the oil refinery in Brega since it is a strategic point for the government. The rebels are convinced that this is the last offensive to defeat the regime of Gadhafi before its fall. According to the television station Al Arabiya several violent combats have occurred between the rebels and the groups loyal to Gaddafi near the border of Tunisia. (AV)
