The 21 new magistrates gave their oath

This Thursday the Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa along with several members of the Transitional Council of the Judiciary (CJT for its Spanish acronym) and the international watcher Baltasar Garzon attended the ceremony of the 21 new magistrates that would rule the judicial offices. At 19:45 (GMT) the president of CJT, Paulo Rodriguez took the oath of the judges and temporary judges, once they were in the office.

The ceremony of the 21 new judges and 21 new temporary judges formed the new National Court of Justice. The event was held at Teatro Sucre of Quito. The entrance of the theater was filled with indigenous communities that were invited.

Judge Fernando Yavar was the first to intervene by pointing out that the average age of the members of the new court is of 49 years. (AV)
