Bloomberg Plans to Ban the Sale of Sugary Drinks in New York City
New York Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, proposed banning the sale of any drink that content high level of sugar in presentations over half a liter in any restaurant, café, cinema or even from street vendors in New York.
New York spends $ 4 billion per year in health care for overweight residents and the city consumes sugary drinks daily, it is the most important factor in the increasing number of obese New Yorkers, informed Bloomberg.
Bloomberg’s ban would not apply to diet drinks, juices, smoothies and alcoholic beverages, the measure would take effect in March 2013. (PLS)
