Jail for Speed Offenders since July 23
The penalty will apply to those who drive more than 70 km / h within the city, and apart from the three days in jail, the offending driver will be fined with $292 and will also lose 10 points on its license.
Since next Monday, July 23, transit officers, having at hand the picture-radars that will test the violations, will begin to arrest drivers and their vehicles in case of violating the law, said General Juan Ruales, head of the National Transit Direction (DNT for its Spanish acronym).
The controls will be at random, ie, the guards and checkpoints will rotate each time by different highways. “We cannot monitor them all, but we can monitor visible drivers who are found violating the law”, said Ruales.
In Guayas, the Transit Commission of Ecuador (CTE for its Spanish acronym) prepares its 2 500 guards in the content of the Rules of the Road Traffic Act to implement its new provisions, particularly those imposed for speeding on streets and highways. MZ
