The National Bar Association of Ecuador noted that the processes substantiated by the IACHR against Ecuador motivated the Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino to push reforms to boost the Inter American System.

This was said by Pedro Granja, secretary of the union in a press conference, referring to Friday’s meeting in Guayaquil.

The process consist on international cases: “The 10  of Luluncoto, the apprehension of Carolina Llanos for a triple murder in Quinsaloma (Los Rios), the arrest of former legislator Fernando Balda and the demand filed by Rafael Correa against alleged insults of El Universo newspaper.” In addition there is a lawsuit against the State for the violation of a minor by Jorge Glas Viejo, father of the recently elected Vice President.

Granja said the girl’s mother will carry out a hunger strike in front of the Hilton Colon hotel, that hosts the meeting of the 21 representative state members  of the Human Rights Convention.

El Universo newspaper attorney Joffre Campana added that besides the cases against Ecuador, the Correa’s government motives to reform the Commission are part of “a political process that aims to capture absolute power and from that perspective avoid any action of any international agency, that could compromise internal legal decisions.”
