Monday July 6 Pope Francis began his agenda in Ecuador, coming to Guayaquil to visit the Divine Mercy Sanctuary, after which he officiated the outdoor mass in the Samanes Park and had lunch in the Javier High School with the congregation of Jesuits and his friend, Father Paquito.
At 6 pm he returned to Quito to meet with the President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, in the Carondelet Palace. The meeting lasted 50 minutes. They then headed to the Yellow Hall where the president presented the Pope dozens of people, including all the federal cabinet, undersecretaries and military officials.
He then walked to the Metropolitan Cathedral, prayed before a statue of the Virgin Mary and placed a rosary on it, he also greeted religious of the Cathedral. There, he was received amidst the applause of Catholics.
Upon leaving the temple he addressed the hundreds of faithful who waited for him. “Let there be no differences, no exclusivity or people who is discarded. May they all be brothers. May they all be included and there is none that is out of this great Ecuadorian nation,” he asked them.
