The Technical University of Quevedo is developing a new technology for the control of pests and diseases with minimal use of pesticides, the same that damage the environment and increases the price of banana boxes.
Because of pests, low profitability is generated by low yields, especially when market prices fluctuate: one week a box can cost $ 8 and another $ 3.
Carmen Suarez, researcher and professor at the Quevedo University said they are developing a new technology and they are giving advice to communities to enable them to use it.
We have two years doing this and it has begun to pay off. “We want to have more resistant crops, and orito and barraganete banana types are the most sensitive to pests,” Suarez said.
