The post-Panamax vesselfrom GGM Ganges – 300 meters length- arrived Monday in one of the docks of the Contecon concessionary, something that reiterated the need to improve the dept of water in the entrance channel to the port of Guayaquil.
Jaime Nebot, mayor of Guayaquil, when being consulted, said that the dredging of the access channel is in government hands. “In my view we must not only take it to 9.50 meters, but 11.50 (meters), I would say, at low tide,” he added.
Nebot added that the municipality is still negotiating with the Corp of Engineers of the US Army to start the dredging works of Los Goles (a rocky sector), located in front of Posorja.
“We are expecting an agreement of protection status so that the gentlemen could come here and we can negotiate and finalize that contract, for which exists the willingness and enough money. The process will take the time it takes the agreement between the United States and the Foreign Ministry of Ecuador, we are working on it without much problem,” he said.
