Several people came to the ground floor of the Joaquín Gallegos Lara building to require the Ministry of Public Health (MSP for its Spanish acronym) speed in the payment processes to private clinics that provide them renal treatments (dialysis).
In the group of a hundred people there were patients referred from the MSP to private health centres and some delegates from these clinics, who indicated that this portfolio has overdue installments since last May with 24 centers.
Their goal was reach one of the floors where the MSP works. In the attempt there were scufflings with police and private guards.
Yamil Cedeno, director of Governance of the MSP Zone 8, told those present that the health service is “guaranteed” for all patients.
Cedeno held two meetings with representatives of patients and the clinics. At the meeting, the official said that tomorrow they would pay the May installment, and gradually those of the remaining months until the end of the month, said Dora Garcia, president of the Association of Renal Patients of Ecuador.
According to the spokeswoman, 2,500 patients of the Zone 8 are at risk if care at private centers is suspended.
