The first big catch of drugs of the year took place during the ‘Monarch’ operation. Police seized 1.5 tons of cocaine and arrested ten suspected members of an international drug trafficking network.
Wednesday night and yesterday morning the operation was completed in the provinces of Santo Domingo, Manabi, Guayas and Los Rios, the National Director of Narcotics, Edmundo Moncayo, reported.
The detainees are six Ecuadorians and four Colombians that made up four levels in the organization: financiers, carriers, coordinators, collectors and security.
According to Moncayo, the drug was temporarily collected in farms in El Carmen,, Buena Fe and Santo Domingo counties. Then, the alkaloid was carried in trucks and vans.
Jute bags filled of clay served for transportation to the port of Guayaquil. The illicit substance was in 1,300 packages to be introduced in four containers, with destination to four nations in northern Europe. The clay was going to Korea. An exporting company is under investigation.
