Peasants and indigenous people led by the president of the Conaie Jorge Herrera and of the Ecuarunari Carlos Perez Guartambel, yesterday asked the Commission on Food Sovereignty of the Assembly to demand the Government protective measures for small milk producers.
These include the state of emergency for the agricultural sector.
“Peasant grassroots organizations are demanding to uprise by the falling price of milk, a measure that can be given in these weeks; Now the answer is in the court of the government,” Perez Guartambel warned.
He said that this sector has recorded the “worst crisis in its history,” because currently producers are paid $ 0.05 per liter of milk when the Government set a price of $ 0,42 in the ministerial decree No. 394 of 13 September 2013.
