Banks can now decide if they want to be multiple or specialized; but to do so, they should consider the thresholds defined by the Board of Monetary Financial Regulation, in granting loans. No entity can spend and go over the fence, otherwise, there will be a punishment.
Those who choose to be multiple, must be set if operating in two or more credit segments and check the new conditions. They will be able to distribute more than 20% of the total balance of its portfolio in at least two of these five types of loans: commercial, consumer, housing, microcredit or education.
Instead, those with specialized spirit, must register more than 50% in a single segment credit, and always respect the balance of its total portfolio. And none of the other remaining credits may exceed the limit of 20%. (I)
