Marcela Paredes anticipated that the National Electoral Council (CNE for its Spanish acronym) will not set additional polling stations for citizens of different sexual orientation who show their identity cards with the gender data instead of sex.
“People who have the ‘female’ or ‘male’ gender in their identity cards, according to their will, may be in the women or men line,” Paredes said.
She noted that last Wednesday the Registry Office launched the service that will allow certain users to request the institution that the field of sex on their identity cards is replaced by gender.
This, according to the Organic Law of Identity Management and Civil Data.
CNE president Juan Pablo Pozo also ‘welcomed’ the decision of the Registry Office. Yesterday he wrote on his Twitter account: “It is our obligation to ensure equal elections and without discrimination. The yesterday struggles are today´s rights!”
