Protestant leaders and the Archbishop of Guayaquil, Monsignor Luis Cabrera, have made prayers so that the elections of next Sunday are carried out without inconveniences and that the elected authorities listen to the people.
Cabrera, who received in the past days the visit of presidential candidates Guillermo Lasso (CREO-SUMA) and Lenin Moreno, (Alianza PAIS), said that during these meetings he reiterated what was expressed in an open letter he extended to the hopefuls. In the case of being chosen, they shall take into account the closeness of the people, they shall listen to them, and they shall be dedicated to their service.
He said that the Pastoral Letter of the Ecuadorian Episcopal Conference reiterates the call to the candidates to respect the results, to welcome them, and to receive them with courage, joy, and hope.
The Archbishop said that he echoed again the Charter of the Conference in which Ecuadorians are asked to vote “freely and conscientiously” taking into account “what are the plans and programs and what are the ethical principles behind each of the proposals.”
