‘Quito, Garden of Hummingbirds’ Art Exhibition at Malecon 2000
65 hummingbird sculptures made of resin and fiberglass were presented last weekend at the Simón Bolívar boardwalk calling the attention of all the people passing by. The art display is titled “Quito, garden of hummingbirds”.
Dozens of people of all ages were captivated by such a beautiful art exhibition. Photos were taken everywhere in order to remember the event. Everyone took their time praising the sculptures regardless of the strong sun.
One of the most striking sculptures among the others was the “Fountain of Life” hummingbird, painted by Nixon Cordova, referring to the image of a pregnant woman illustrated in the sculpture, commemorating the beginning of the miracle of life. Another prominent sculpture was the one that Vinicio Vallejos painted, titled “Superhero Hummingbird”. “Every sculpture has its thing in terms of color and technique” said a spectator.
The art display is being guarded by approximately 15 Metropolitan Police officers in order to prevent people from battering the sculptures by trying to get too close or even trying to touch them. “Quito, garden of hummingbirds” will stay opened to the public every day until April 29, from 07:00 to 00:00. Admission is free. (ARL)
