The FEF will sue Peruvian journalist Philip Butters for racist comments

Posted On 21 Jun 2017

Ecuadornews:

The Ecuadorian Soccer Federation (FEF for its Spanish acronym), gave Peruvian journalist Philip Butters 48 hours to apologize for his racist comments against the national team and announced Tuesday that it would immediately sue the communicator if he did not do so.
The Peruvian journalist made offenses against the Ecuadorian players in a television program and, in particular, referred striker Felipe Caicedo, who plays in Espanyol.
“Hey guys if Felipe Caicedo undergoes a DNA test, you´ll see he’s not human, he’s a monkey, a gorilla. They’re tight niggers, and if they bite you, you catch Ebola,” Butters said in a Peruvian television program last week.
These allegations generated strong reactions in Ecuador, including that of President Lenin Moreno, the Ministry of Sport and the Ecuadorian Olympic Committee, among others, who have announced their support for the lawsuit that could be initiated by the FEF.
The intention of the FEF of suing the journalist is added to the information released Tuesday by the Peruvian newspaper El Comercio, according to which, the Ecuadorian striker has already decided to sue Butters, based on statements by Alfonso Maroto, his representative. (I)
