A week remains before the dredging of the Daule River starts

Head of the National Water Secretariat, Walter Solís (R), and Prefect of Guayas Jimmy Jairala yesterday signed the agreement.
Yesterday, the Prefecture of Guayas and the National Water Secretariat (Senagua for its Spanish acronym) signed an agreement to carry out the dredging and hydraulic fill near the El Palmar, located at the mouth of the Daule river.
In its first phase, works will start between the islet El Palmar and La Puntilla. The work would last 11 months. According to the study by the Ministry of Public Works 290,260.66 m3 of sediment should be removed, but is not yet defined where it is going to be deposited.
Prefect Jimmy Jairala clarified that the island will not be removed. “The goal is that this section of La Puntilla turns navigable and has depth, if we don’t do this, we run the risk of flooding in the basin of the Guayas River .”
The second phase is all about reforest and cleaning the area of the Guayas River Basin, which according to the company is where the sediment is originated. Minister of Public Works, Maria de los Angeles Duarte said the maintenance of that sector of the estuary will take four years
The budget for the sediment removal work is $ 4 `623.000, which will be funded by the Government.
