Another Sue for Local Journalists Due to “Big Brother” Book

On March 25^th before the Provincial Court of Pichincha, the Minister of Transport and Public Works (MTOP), Maria de los Angeles Duarte, filed a civil suit for moral damages against Ecuadorian journalists Juan Carlos Calderon and Christian Zurita authors of the book called “El Gran Hermano” (Big Brother).

The lawsuit, which went to the 21º Civil Court  in that jurisdiction, narrows that inside the book there is a photograph of her with a caption that mentions that it was during her tenure at the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing (Housing Ministry) that Fabricio signed a millionaire contract of lands for the Housing Partner Program.

“The book is a dogged attempt to affect the image of President Rafael Correa and all of those who are supporting him… In this attempt they made a mistake. They said I had given a contract to Fabricio Correa when I was no longer Minister of Housing, “Duarte said in an interview with local media on 6 April. She says that at that time, she was not in Government but in campaign for mayor of Guayaquil.
