Arturo Larrea Accused of Taking Bribe
Arturo Larrea, Secretary of the Constitutional Court (CC), has been accused by Assemblyman Galo Lara, for having received on January 13, 2011, the sum of $ 500,000 for processing the case of Cervecería Nacional.
According to the complaint, Larrea took $ 200,000 in cash over the counter of a bank branch after four days. Additionally, two checks were deposited into the account of the brother of the secretary of the Constitutional Court, one for $ 500.000 and another one for $ 50.000, but they were canceled to prevent a possible leakage of information.
This affects negatively CC’s image, so Edgar Zarate, vice president of the organization, ordered to carry out an urgent investigation.
Lara made the complaint official with the General Attorney yesterday, he accused nine judges of the CC of complicity and Cerveceria Nacional deposited Alfredo Larrea, brother of Arturo Larrea, the bribe money in his bank account.
The secretary made the report public on Thursday, when the CC fully annulled all constitutional cases that were processed in various courts in the country.
Yesterday, judge Zárate, concerned about the indictment of Assemblyman Lara, requested an urgent meeting so that the full Court knows the subject and an internal investigation to the secretary of the body is provided. He also requested the General Attorney to immediately begin investigating the case. “I am ready to face any authority on behalf of my clean record… to contribute for the elucidation of these embarrassing facts,” said Zarate.
