The banana sector is concerned about the arrival of El Niño, the climate phenomenon that in the 1997-1998 period affected about 31,750 hectares, according to statistics from the Andean Development Corporation (CAF for its Spanish acronym).

During the VI Banana World Summit, producers explained that their work is focused on prevention. This includes the cleaning of channels to evacuate water and the construction of barriers to prevent rivers overflow crops.
