Businessman Daniel Noboa announces his candidacy for the Presidency of Ecuador
The businessman and former assemblyman Daniel Noboa announced this Wednesday his candidacy for the Presidency of Ecuador in the extraordinary general elections to be held in August, after the “cross death” decreed by the current president, Guillermo Lasso, before the opposition voted for his dismissal in a political trial.

Businessman Daniel Noboa announces his candidacy for the Presidency of Ecuador.
Through a message on social networks, Noboa announced his intention to run for the presidential seat with the ADN movement, his own party, as his father, also a businessman Álvaro Noboa, had done on five occasions, who twice stayed at doors in the second round of being president.
The businessman, who was a member of the National Assembly (Parliament) recently dissolved by Lasso, pointed out that in these new elections there is “much at stake” such as “security, economic development, employment and health.”
Noboa described himself as “a man of projects who does not give up and does not give up” and considered it necessary to “create a great national democratic alliance to give Ecuador the path it deserves.”
“Ecuador needs to change the way of running this country, of facing the challenges that hinder the growth and security of citizens. Ecuador cries out for a change of mentality, for the conviction that things can be done better,” he said.
The candidate was in favor of Lasso applying the “cross death”, a constitutional tool with which he dissolved the Assembly, controlled by a majority of the left, and called these extraordinary elections whose winners will complete the 2021-2025 period.
In addition to Noboa, former Assemblyman Fernando Villavicencio, businessman Jan Topic and former Vice President Otto Sonnenholzner, who held office during the presidential term of Lenín Moreno (2017-2021), also announced their intention to run for the Presidency.
Lasso can opt for re-election, but so far he has not ruled on it.
The first round will be held on August 20 and, if a second round is necessary between the two most voted candidates, this will be held on October 15.
