Byron Moreno Admits Heroin Possession
On Thursday, former Ecuadorean referee Byron Moreno, pleaded guilty to introduce heroin into the United States. Moreno had 6.2 kilograms of heroin in plastic bags hidden between his clothes when he came to New York from Guayaquil, on September 20th.
Moreno affirmed he did not posses heroin with the intention to distribute it, which is another of the charges he is dealing with. At the moment, former football referee and commentator is in custody and his defense is the responsibility of a federal lawyer by trade.
A spokesman of the Attorney for the Eastern District of New York explained that in similar situations, in which the accused is found guilty, the penalties have been from 51 to 63 months, about 6 years.
Moreno is remembered for his controversial participation in the match between South Korea and Italy in the World Cup in Korea / Japan 2002, where locals defeated Europeans in overtime.
Moreno is also known because of his part in the match between Liga de Quito and Barcelona Sporting Club, where Moreno extended 13 minutes the game.
