Candidates for the Attorney General Office defended themselves in 2 hearings
The first two hearings against Antonio Gagliardo and Elsa Moreno, both candidates for the Attorney General’s Office, were held yesterday afternoon.
First, Dario Burbano questioned Gagliardo candidacy because. Gagliardo keeps interests conflicts within the Office, he does not punish prosecutors, he does not pursue court cases, he appoints friends as ‘mega officials’, he chooses on his own experts and denies the right to information, said Burbano.
Gagliardo said the objections raised against him “were orchestrated to benefit another candidate,” referring to the candidate Galo Chiriboga, who enjoys the backing of President Rafael Correa.
On the other hand, candidate Elsa Moreno, was accused by Maria Paula Romo due to Criminal Enforcement against the Selection Committee to threaten and how Moreno uses her power in the Attorney to drink inside the office, which earned her a discount of 5% of her salary. Moreno said the allegations are an “animosity” by Romo on prosecutors and the Attorney General.
