Chilean Government To Monitor Comments on Social Networks

The Chilean government has decided to monitor comments on President Sebastián Piñera on Facebook and Twitter, such news provoked users’ rejection. The topic became trending on Twitter a few hours after its announcement, people were tweeting under the hashtags #gobiernosapo (nosy government) #frasespalmonitoreo (phrases to monitor). In addition, users began to create protest groups on Facebook.

Under the supervision of the General Secretariat of Government, the company Brandimetrik will analyze all comments and geographic locations of the people who emitted them.

While the Association of Journalists called on the Council of Transparency (which oversees public information) to request the Government to reveal why are they researching on the Internet and what will they do with the information, La Tercera newspaper informed. (MS)
