Posted On 01 Jun 2018

Ecuadornews:

The Ecuadorian Episcopal Conference rejected all forms of abuse against minors, while expressing its “deep sorrow” for the facts denounced and involving clerics of the Catholic Church in the country.

In the communiqué, the EEC commits itself to “take preventive measures against this scourge that affects our families, the Church and society in general, being diligent in protecting the vulnerable populations that they entrust to us.”

He also offered “legal advice, psychological and spiritual accompaniment” for those affected by the abuses. The pronouncement is given after several testimonies were known about sexual abuse committed by priests in the cities of Guayaquil and Cuenca.

“We reiterate our commitment to the defense of life and preventive actions aimed at caring for the innocence of children and young people,” the letter states. The Church maintains that stopping these events is “a responsibility shared with society in general.” (I)
