CNE analyzes YASunidos request
Currently the legal coordination of the National Electoral Council (CNE for its Spanish acronym) is considering the challenge filed by the environmental group YASunidos over the results obtained by the activists in the signature verification process, whose mission was to call a referendum to prevent the oil extraction in the ITT fields of the Yasuni National Park.
The electoral body has a period of 30 days to respond to the objection, as established in the Code of Democracy. That is, the 14th of June.
YASunidos challenged the decision of the CNE of last May 8, where the electoral body concludes that the environmental group did not meet the minimum requirements to call a referendum, ie, to have at least 583,342 valid signatures. However, only 359,761 were validated due to alleged irregularities.
