Companies in Ecuador learn to apply telework on the go

Posted On 14 May 2020

One of the consequences of the covid-19 crisis is the application of telework in companies . Hundreds of firms in the country and in the world have had to adapt to this new reality.

Companies in Ecuador learn to apply telework on the go

Eva Asensio, vice-dean of the Faculty of Business and Communication of the International University of La Rioja (UNIR), explains that telework is based on the development of work activities in a remote environment; There is no physical contact between the people who collaborate to carry out any type of activity.

In this new workplace, the type of leadership that is exercised with those who work remotely is important . The leader must manage well the emotions of the employees and the communication channels.

Excessive information , emails, and meetings should be avoided . According to Asensio, the objectives, action plans and planned tasks “must be clearly distributed and defined. Furthermore, trust is essential with the team. ”

There are more suitable areas for teleworking. For example, it can be implemented in companies whose activities do not have direct contact with the client, or in entities that depend on interaction with computers , says Daniel Dávalos, manager of Selecta.

According to Eva Asensio, human contact between work teams can be supplemented by free technological tools .

Among these applications, he mentions Trello , project management and control software; Agantty , which allows managing work processes; Loomio , which is used in companies for decision-making and meeting preparation; and Loom , ideal for recording videos and the screen.

On how to avoid the possible leak of confidential company information, Dávalos affirms that the key is to have an area responsible for computer security, with clear regulations and secure software and systems packages.

Companies also come to soak up this type of work through online training .

“In our Master of Business Administration (MBA), students have to work in geographically dispersed teams of colleagues, using collaborative work tools and Office 365”, explains Asensio, who highlights that UNIR has more than 10 years in this area.
