President Rafael Correa announced that he will meet with the interprovincial transportation sector to discuss “sensibly, rationally and without politics”, the order of increasing the price of the bus fares.
Interprovincial hauliers ask for and increase of 25% for the tickets.
Correa clarified that the bus fares have not been changed in the last eleven years and that “even the incomes level of Ecuador has substantially risen and transport costs have not been adjusted”.
He also noted that the Government is responsible for fixing the bus fares for interprovincial transport, while urban transport corresponds to the municipalities.
