Cristobal Colon School Began Co-education in its Classrooms
After only 99 years of educating young boys in different specializations, Cristóbal Colón Salesian School leads co-education in Guayaquil, Ecuador. In this school year the Cristóbal Colón welcomed 16 girls that after 13 years will become part of the first co-education class graduates.
The idea came three years ago, but was implemented now, not so much for the centennial of the organization, but because of the new Intercultural Education Act that wish to introduce co-education in schools, according to Maria Teresa Teran Manjarrés, director of basic section.
Since 4 April, the new students were added to the four school classes of the first year of education (four girls in each). They represent 10% compared to the number of boys in the institution (1,600).
