The Cuenca Airport Corporation reiterated Thursday it will cease operations for 36 hours (until Saturday) as a way of prevention after an Embraer 190 of the Tame airline lost track. None of its 93 occupants were seriously injured.
“People who need to travel to Quito and Guayaquil shall do so by land until the terminal is operational,” the group said in a statement.
This after the Ministry of Tourism ensured in a statement: “The Mariscal La Mar de Cuenca airport is operational at the moment.”
The Corporation said in its Twitter account: “Airport operational only for departures without passengers. This happened only because two aircraft were on platform.”
The airline announced on Twitter that the plane-an Embraer 190- lost track due to the bad weather conditions that prevail in the city.
The Ministry also explained that 87 passengers and 6 crew members were traveling in that plane.
Meanwhile, relief agencies reported that two people were assisted due to a nervous breakdown and a bruised ankle. They were treated in ambulances of the Ministry of Public Health and the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security (IESS).
