Dance of the humpback whales started

June is the month when the humpback whales arrive from the Antarctic to the Ecuadorian coasts. And to celebrate it, Puerto Lopez celebrated the opening ceremony of the VXII Festival of Humpback Whales Watching.

Each year, hundreds of domestic and foreign tourists visit Puerto Lopez and its surrounding areas to enjoy the humpback whales watching. These cetaceans roam 8,000 kilometers from the Antarctic for the sole purpose of mating and reproducing.

In Puerto Lopez there are about 30 tourism agencies that offer visitors the chance to observe closely the course of the whales and other activities offered by the Machalilla National Park.
