Ecuadornews:
The Moscow Police and the Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) reported the capture of a gang of drug traffickers from South America who were introducing cocaine into Russia. The operation to stop the smugglers lasted almost half a year and started by chance, according to a publication of the RT en Español news portal.
In May 2016, the lifeless body of Sebastián ‘Camel’ Caicedo, model and participant of popular reality shows in Ecuador, was found in a hotel in Moscow. In his stomach eight capsules with cocaine were found, with a total weight of about 80 grams.
He explained to RT a source in the security forces familiar with the investigation, that on May 16 Sebastian, with his brother Diego, introduced cocaine into Russian territory. That same night, the man died in the room of the Green Palace hotel, at Vnukovo airport, after a capsule burst in his stomach.
Diego called an ambulance and tried to revive his brother before the doctors arrived, but when he realized he was dead he fled with the rest of the drug.
In Ecuador, the death of Sebastián caused a strong repercussion. The Ecuadorian Police joined the investigation into the incident, followed closely by the country’s interior minister, César Navas.
Meanwhile, Russian law enforcement learned that the gang was preparing to send more men to find out what had happened to Sebastian’s brother, drugs and money. According to the source of RT, from that moment began “the real operating game” to attract other members of the band to Russia.
Finally, two other drug traffickers, Colombian citizens, arrived in Moscow, according to the source, charged with carrying more drugs, as well as receiving money for the previous shipment and taking Diego out of the country. However, once in the Russian capital they were stopped by the police. In total, in the police operation they seized the drug traffickers three kilos and a half of cocaine. (I)
