Defrosting in Antarctica has increased over the last 600 years
According to a study published by the newspaper ‘Nature Geoscience’, the Defrosting in Antarctica has increased almost ten times in the last 600 years, when temperatures were about 1.6 degrees Celsius less than those registered in the 20th century.
“We found that the colder conditions in the Antarctic peninsula and the least amount of meltwater during the summer took place 600 years ago,” said Nerilie Abram, head of the study and an expert from the Australian National University (ANU) and the British Antarctic Survey (BAS).
This research seeks to understand the reasons for environmental change in Antarctica and measure the contribution of its ice melting in the rising of sea levels, so the scientists examined the temperature changes in the Antarctica ice core over the last thousand years.
