Division between indigenous movements for national strike
The national strike is scheduled for August 13, so that the indigenous mobilization will start from Sunday. The call was made by the Commission of Workers and the Social Security of the legislature, in conjunction with the Commission for Amendments. The Labor Parliament, the Single Confederation of Workers (CUT) and other trade unions were invited too.
The Assembly has called a dialogue but on the part of Unitary Workers Front, the appeal was rejected. The most notorious division is the one that exists in the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE). Its leadership is contrary to the regime.
Angel Morocho, president of the Kichwa community of Zamora, said that some members of the Governing Council did not consult the indigenous bases. On behalf of the heads of CONAIE, however, it was ensured that the indigenous mobilization decision was approved at the annual meeting, held on the 17th and the 18th of this month.
In the group of advocates of Correa´s government are, as assured by their holders, organizations such as the Shuar Nationality of Pastaza, the Andoa Nationality, the Tungurahua Indian Movement, among others. The only certainty they made public, as indicated by Delia Caguana, president of the Indigenous Movement of Chimborazo, is that they will defend the political project of the government.
