Ecuador: first place in teak sales to India

Ecuador became the first teak exporter in India, for the sale of 91 thousand cubic meters sold from August to December 2014, thus ousting Myanmar (Southeast Asian country).

Ecuador´s total sales abroad in 2014 was 166 thousand cubic meters, according to figures from RISI, the leading provider of information for the global forest products industry. This info was highlighted yesterday at the opening of the Third World Teak Conference which is held in Hilton Colon of Guayaquil until Friday.

Ecuador exported $ 37 million in teak last year, said Antonio Pino Gómez-Lince, president of the Ecuadorian Association of Producers and Traders of Teak and Tropical Timber (Asoteca).
