Ecuador rules out the Monkeypox epidemic
On May 27, Ecuador registered the first suspected case of monkeypox in Quito and the patient underwent the corresponding test.
On the night of May 20, 2022, the Ministry of Health ruled out that it was a case of monkeypox and Ximena Garzón, minister of the State portfolio, added that there are no more suspected cases of the disease in Ecuadorian territory.
Despite not having suspected cases of this disease, the Ministry activated an epidemiological alert and, as a preventive measure, acquired a thousand kits for the diagnosis of monkeypox, the first batch of tests would arrive the first week of June.
World health authorities indicate that it is practically impossible for monkeypox to become a pandemic because its ‘speed’ of transmission is very low and its spread requires close contact with an infected person.
