Ecuadorian Government faces setbacks of its reforms to the IACHR
The changes to some reforms that the Government of Ecuador proposes to the Inter-American System of Human Rights (ISHR) would not be part of the debate that next week will be carried out in the Organization of American States (OAS) to decide what changes will be implemented.
According to some experts in international law there is, apparently, the intention of the government of President Rafael Correa is to “weaken” one of the bodies of the ISHR, the American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), so far it has not been well received.
The Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry, made several proposals shared with other members of the OAS, but the one that has tried to obtain is that the Commission loses its power to carry out precautionary measures. This week, the president, Rafael Correa, reiterated that his government will not recognize this right.
Hernan Pesantez Salgado, former president of the Inter American Human Rights Court (CourtIDH), maintains that the diplomatic work of Ecuador failed because its approach was not included in the Declaration of Guayaquil.
