Ecuadorian standards concerned Spanish and Mexican exporters
Due to the new quality standards issued in November of 2013 by the Minister of industries Ramiro Gonzalez, Spanish and Mexican exporters have extended communications to their authorities, Union leaders and Ecuadorian officials, about the difficulties to get products into the country, according to information released yesterday by the Ecuadorian Business Committee (EEC).
Carlos Berzunza, director of the Chamber and Association of Personal care and household industry of Mexico (Canipec), in a letter to Henry Kronfle, head of the EEC, says: “there is no way to comply with these regulations (093 and 088 from the Ecuadorian Institute of normalisation, INEN) because in the case of cosmetics, a conformity assessment certificate is requested as a requirement which is impossible to obtain because in Ecuador there are no laboratories or certifying bodies for cosmetics”.
Meanwhile, Ana Martínez, of the Spanish Association of manufacturers of ceramic tiles and flooring (Ascer), in letter addressed to Austin Ortiz, director of INEN on December 3 she said: “trade in European, Latin American countries, and most of the international trade of tiles does not demand certifications of conformity of the product (…) the product information and the respective testing are already quality assurance.”
