Ecuadorian wins National Geographic Award

Monica Gonzalez, Ecuadorian biologist, won the Buffett Award for Leadership in Conservation in Latin America 2015 National Geographic Society Award for her work with local populations of Esmeraldas and Manabi, to stop the habitat and native species loss.
On Tuesday, she will receive $ 25,000 from the National Geographic in Washington. This prize is awarded every year to two environmentalists who have excelled, one in Latin America and other in Africa.
Gonzalez, executive director of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Tropical Andes (FCAT for its Spanish acronym), began working in the 90s with the communities living near the Mache Chindul Reserve, in Ecuador, a biologically diverse tropical rainforest.
