Ecuador’s leftist Groups Prepare for the Primaries
The presidential candidate that will represent the leftist groups of Ecuador for the upcoming elections of 2013 will be democratically elected in the Plurinational Coordinator Assembly, to be held on May 18 in Quito.
Candidates from different political parties such as Pachakutik, Montecristi Vive, MPD, Frente Popular, FEUE and Corriente Socialista Revolucionaria will be participating in this meeting.
The only official name known so far is that of Assemblwoman Lourdes Tibán, representative of Cotopaxi.
Other names such as Gustavo Larrea, Paul Carrasco, Jorge Escala, Mery Zamora, Diana Atamaint, Auki Tituaña and Alberto Acosta are heard among the possible options.
The President of the Indigenous and Campesino Movement of Cotopaxi (for its Spanish acronym), Mario Alomoto said they will talk with other parties and movements to establish potential partnerships, but ruled out any deal with the current government.
The first round of presidential elections will be held on January 20, 2013 and the second on March 3. The new officers will begin their duties on May 24, 2013.
