El Universo Ask IACHR to Dismiss Precautionary Measures

The defense attorney of the Perez brothers and Emilio Palacio requested to the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights (IACHR) to dismiss the precautionary measures placed on his favor due to the sentence of Case El Universo.

Last Wednesday, the attorneys presented a document to the branch of the Inter-American group in Washington. Hernan Perez, one of the attorneys of the newspaper informed that the dismissal request of the precautionary measures was made because of the pardon given by the Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa. Perez also considers unnecessary the meeting with IACHR scheduled for March 28.

However the request made by El Universo attorneys for the dismissal of the precautionary measures of IACHR does not stops the process against the Ecuadorian State for violating the human rights of the accused.

“The objective of that demand is that the sentence be annulled so it won’t turn into a precedent,” said Hernán Perez. (AV)
