Ferguson and McIlroy Ready to Receive an Honorary Doctorate

Manchester United coach, Sir Alex Ferguson and Northern Ireland golfer, Rory McIlroy will receive an honorary doctorate degree from the University of Ulster for their sporting achievements.

In a statement the University indicated that a doctorate from both will be in “science” and presented at a ceremony whose date is yet to be determined.

Ferguson, 71, is considered one of the most admired, respected, and successful coaches ‹‹in the World” after race almost all the domestic and European trophies with Manchester United in 25 years. In addition, the institution acknowledged his past as a player in Dunfermline Athletic and Glasgow Rangers clubs and their “short” step in the national team in the Mexico World Cup 1986.

In McIlroy, 23, said that last year he became the “youngest winner in nearly 90 years,” of the U.S. Open and attributed himself the role of “hero” of the European team that won the Rider Cupin 2010.
