European Parliament would have agreed to include Ecuador in the Schengen visa exemption regime.
“The Commission services have three months to carry out the technical evaluation, but the political and legislative decision has already been made,” said Zarzalejos Nieto, in rejection of what Ylva Johannson said. She pointed out that “Ecuador is not ready” to be part of the list of countries that do not need a visa.
“She cannot speak on behalf of Parliament or anticipate an evaluation that the Commission has not yet made,” said Zarzalejos Nieto.
The debate on the exemption of the Schengen visa for Ecuadorian citizens will take place in January 2023. In the first instance, the decision was to be made in the last two weeks of the year, but the corruption scandal involving the former vice president of the European Parliament, Eva Kaili, you delayed the process.
