Mercosur summit
During the Mercosur Social Summit it urged the authorities of the bloc to demand ‘explanations’ to Europe for temporary denying the airspace of the President of Bolivia, Evo Morales. Additionally requested suspending the Ibero-American summit until such offenses are answered.
After the events that affected “the rights of immunity of President Evo Morales and his party, and the sovereignty of the Bolivian people, we urge the heads of state of the Mercosur to interrupt the Ibero-American summits pushed by Spain and Portugal until the demanded explanations arrive,” to the Latin American governments, said the preliminary statement made by the Summit.
The document “rejects” that the Pacific Alliance-block formed by Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru, “is a process of regional integration to the extent that it is a market expansion of transnational corporations and is part of the strategy of the United States” in order to “divide the Latin American integration advances that were achieved with UNASUR and CELAC.”
The document added: “the claim of the European Union to take the necessary actions for the four countries involved to give a prompt response” to the Latin American explanations about the incident.
