Faithful go to their churches over Ash Wednesday
Last Wednesday March 4, the Lent, considered as a time of reflection on the Catholic religion, began with its 40 days of preparation and conversion before Easter.
Ecuador’s capital, Quito, had its historic center filled with hundreds of people carrying the figure of the cross, shaped with ash on their foreheads as a religious sign that has been maintained through the years.
The shapes and colors of the Christian sign varied: large, small, distorted, blurry, dark crosses and also clear ones… Parishioners, from young people to seniors, went early to their temples in order to fulfill the ritual.
Hundreds of believers met this religious tradition and with ash on their foreheads they continued with their daily tasks, like any other day of the week.
