Through a letter published in the official website of the Armed Revolutionary Forces of Colombia (FARC for its Spanish acronym), published last November 26 when the request to return the bodies was made, without specifying the number or identity of the fallen guerrilla members during confrontations with Ecuador.
However, Ecuador did not receive a formal request until today. According to reports the guerrillas Ivan Marquez, Ricardo Tellez and Jesus Santrich, were responsible for submitting the application to the Ecuadorian ambassador, Edgar Ponce, in La Habana, Cuba.
Initially the order appealed to a humanitarian gesture stating: “We would request that our dead comrades who perished during the bombings in the province of Sucumbios, Ecuador, be repatriated as soon as possible, with their forensic exams to be identified and placed in the hands of their families in order to be given a decent burial. ”
The Ecuadorian government has not yet issued a response to the formal request.
