Galo Lara sentenced to ten years

Last Monday, the Criminal Chamber of the National Court of Justice (CNJ) sentenced to 10 years in prison the former assemblymen Galo Lara under the crime of accomplice in the triple murder of the Llanos Parco family. The macabre event occurred on August 4, 2011 in Quinsaloma, Los Rios.

During yesterday trial, the prosecution asked the magistrates to relate it to Lara. Although in the first instance he was pronounced innocent in December 2012.

Galo Chiriboga, the Attorney General’s Office, said yesterday that it will respect the court’s decision regarding the accomplice sentence; despite they originally requested that the former assemblymen be condemned as the author of the 2011 triple murder.

Relatives and acquaintances of the victims were satisfied with the judgment against the former legislator. “Thank to God and to justice. It is a crime so horrific because he ordered to kill a child of four years, my daughter and my son with several machetes chops and they were found in the river,” said the mother of one of the victims.

The criminal court took the decision under the revocation hearing and appeal of the sentence, conducted between last Tuesday and yesterday. The judges rejected the motion to vacate on Tuesday, considering that there was no violation of due process. Yesterday the appeal was rejected because the judgment is not subject to appeal.
