Gino Cornejo: Fines of the ATM are an attack against human rights

Posted On 16 Jan 2019

Ecuadornews:

Gino Cornejo, from the Adelante Ecuatoriano Adelante party, has no political career, but believes that his work experience in the public, private and academic sectors gives him the right ‘credentials’ to be mayor of the city. “I have a civic, moral and ethical responsibility to provide society with this contingent in order to have a more human Guayaquil”.

What are the axes of your work plan?

There are three: more services, more employment and more security.

What do you mean by having more services?

We must improve mobility, which is more efficient and that generates productivity, so we are going to increase the units of the Metrovía, we will air them, we will do studies for an elevated train…

The Airway is already being built, isn’t it the same?

No, the elevated train will be inside the city, with pillars, like a monorail…

Electric?

It depends on the studies, we will offer mobility alternatives that help to decongest the city. Second: the subject of garbage. We will make an efficient collection optimizing recycling, in the popular sectors there will be selective trash cans … Third: agile, efficient and quality procedures. It cannot be that an entrepreneur must wait five months for a land use permit. Fourth: We will give water that can be taken from the tap, we will review the contracts of Interagua to see how the water treatment plants are working.

What will you do with the ATM fines?

They are an attack on human rights, they are the highest in Latin America and the world. We are going to review and reduce the fines, which are confiscatory.

How will you give employment?

Every municipal ordinance will promote employment, public-private partnerships, so that citizens can enter the labor market.

What ordinances?

For example, as Guayaquil has parking deficit we can make vertical buildings. Or instead of having parking meters we will put informals trained to generate employment sources…

Are we going to have the streets full of caregivers?

No. We are going to create informal corridors, we are going to count them and we will give them employment opportunities … And every municipal contractor will have the obligation to hire trained and young informants.

What do you propose in security?

We will have an efficient coordination with the Police and the citizenry and to make security advisory councils to analyze alternatives to combat crime.

We will use technology and create apps to create early warning systems and that citizens are connected and report criminal acts so that there is immediate attention. We will create panic buttons in sectors that require it and we will reorganize the eagle eyes. It is time for Guayaquil to have a mayor to take care of people. (I)
