Guayaquil Chamber of Commerce criticizes the implementation of safeguards
Today, 14 representatives of the board of the Chamber of Commerce of Guayaquil (CCG) presented in a press conference its refusal to implement the tariff safeguards that will take effect from tomorrow.
Pablo Arosemena, head of the agency, said that this measure will cause price increases in goods and “less money in the pockets of consumers with increased product value that can reach 45%.”
“We’re talking about a pair of shoes that would be affected, even school supplies would have an increase. The safeguards are not necessary, rather produces higher prices and even cutting jobs, “said Arosemena.
Arosemena concluded: “three months is enough, but 15 is excessive. The safeguards have not been consulted, we want free trade. The best safeguard is that which does not exist. Be careful if the safeguards kill the goose that lays the golden eggs: the commercial sector. We were not born yesterday, or we will end tomorrow. “
