Hurricane “Beatriz” Hits Mexican Coast
“Beatriz” is about 20 miles southeast of La Fortuna and 80 miles west-northwest of the port of Manzanillo, in Colima state, where authorities ordered the suspension of classes in schools. The winds and heavy rains caused flooding, mudslides and falling trees in some coastal regions. The hurricane extends from Lazaro Cardenas in Michoacan state, to the northwest, to Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco.
At night, “Beatriz” became a category one hurricane, the lowest in the Saffir-Simpson, and goes 20 kilometers per hour in a northwesterly direction. The Civil Protection authorities arranged Mexican restrictions on sea and air, and limit beach activities.
“With the forecast track, the center of ” Beatriz” will continue moving along the coast of Mexico, between La Fortuna and Cabo Corrientes in the coming hours,” the CNH. “Beatriz” is expected to start weakening the during today. (MS)
